Julie is a qualified dietician in private practice.  She has a special interest in treating women with eating disorders and disordered eating, in which she has 20 years of experience.


This includes facilitating: individual nutritional therapy, group therapy by means of an 8- week mindfulness-based intervention: “Minding the Food Space”, and  workshops for school girls: “ Food: friend, foe or fuel


She has presented her working perspective on eating disorders at numerous congresses and published a manual, now in second edition. She has lectured on a part time basis for 3 years in the Department of Dietetics, University of Natal, and also to under-graduates and post graduates in Cape Town. Her own experience of mindfulness as a powerful healing modality has deepened her commitment to sharing this with others.


Her research interests include: Psychoneuroimmunology as it applies to the aetiology and progression of disease in patients suffering with eating disorders and Mindfulness, practiced both formally and informally, as a therapeutic tool to facilitate recovery in people suffering with disordered eating/eating disorders.
