Cindy Strydom
Orientation And Approach
We believe that each individual possesses immense capacity to overcome life’s difficulties and foster personal growth.
At Cindy Strydom, Clinical Psychologists we provide therapy for individuals of all ages. Our team consists of two HPCSA registered clinical psychologists; Cindy Strydom and Leandri Beyers; each whom have a passion for guiding individuals through the therapeutic process. The techniques we utilise are aimed at providing each client with the knowledge, skills and tools for sustainable change in achieving their optimal capacity and live a psychological healthy life.
Cindy provides therapy for adolescences, adults and couples; and works mainly from a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) paradigm but also adopts a wide array of therapeutic techniques to optimally benefit each client. CBT is a form of psychotherapy in which the client, together with the therapist, identifies, solves and overcomes their difficulties by changing the patterns of thinking and responses, both behavioural and emotional. Furthermore the therapeutic framework is based on the principle that our thoughts and reactions, both behavioural and emotional, are closely linked. I therefore believe that fostering a change in one dimension consequently causes change in other dimensions.
Leandri provides therapy for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years of age using interventions such as play therapy and the highly specialised technique of Teddy Bear Therapy. This is an exciting, relatively new form of therapy that yields rapid and dramatic results within a few sessions. Teddy Bear Therapy and Play Therapy incorporates storytelling and play in a therapeutic manner.
We work with a wide variety of difficulties which impacts negatively on an individual’s well-being. Thus we believe in working holistically and in conjunction with other health care professionals to ensure that each client receives the best possible treatment. We approach each client as a unique case as we acknowledge that no two people are the same and therefore no “one size fits all” approach to therapy exists.
We provide both therapeutic and assessment services for difficulties ranging from everyday/social problems to a broad spectrum of clinical or mental health disorders which impact negatively on the individual’s psychological well-being. Some of the difficulties we work with include; anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bullying, grief, OCD, ADHD, school difficulties, and career guidance to name a few.
Therapy and assessments are available in both English and Afrikaans to suit the individual’s needs. We also provide therapy over Skype. Rates are within medical aid recommended rates and we are able to claim directly from your medical aid.
